Trailer Tent Mildew

Taking proper care of your trailer tent should be an incredibly high priority. Failing to do so can lead to irreparable damage, with trailer tent mildew being an increasingly common complaint. Before you pack it up (and again when you unload it) remember to engage in a thorough maintenance programme, and hopefully you’ll be able to avoid such issues.

One of the most important things to remember is to never store your trailer tent when it’s wet. Always dry it out thoroughly before you pack it up, as a damp tent can quickly turn mildew. It’s also important to try and keep the trailer as free from water as you can, so always store it in a garage or other roofed area where rain can’t get access to it.

But, what if you open it up and you find mildew? Sometimes no matter how careful we are accidents can happen, and it’s essential to deal with it because it can leave your tent unusable for the entire season. Luckily, there are things you can do to rectify the problem.

A solution of bleach and water is a popular choice and seems to work well on most cases of canvas mildew. Mix the solution and apply it to the affected area and rinse thoroughly, again allowing to dry completely before you use the tent. There are other more commercial methods as well, with a lot of cleaning brands having mildew removers in their range. Make sure that it’s suitable for tents, and if you need a bit of advice make sure to go to a specialist.

As you can see, trailer tent mildew can be easily avoided if you look after your tent properly. It can also be easy to rectify if you happen to suffer from it, and as long as you fix the problem as quickly as possible you can enjoy your trailer tent for years to come.
